Did you know UV lights could be used to clean the air? While this may seem surprising UV lights are actually very effective at killing mold, germs, and odors.

When short wavelength UV light is used in either long term or repeated exposure it kills microorganisms. Germicidal UV light when used in air filtration is placed in the home’s air handler. The air is circulated over the UV light as the air handler works. Contaminants receive adequate doses of UV to cause cellular breakdown. The micro-organisms die and are trapped by the air filter. (No need to worry the UV light isn’t harmful to humans or pets).

Why would you need a germicidal UV light in your home? According to the EPA, indoor air is more polluted than the outdoor air. This being mostly because of lack of ventilation. Installation of a germicidal UV light is easy. The light is placed in your air handler and plugged in. It starts working immediately.

Here are a few of the benefits you will see from using a germicidal UV light:

• Mold and bacteria control.
• Reduction of cold and flu. Germs are not re-circulated by the HVAC system.
• Smell & odor reduction.
• A cleaner coil, improving cooling efficiency and reducing electricity costs.
• Reduction in particles that can aggravate asthma and allergies.

Germicidal UV lights are a good idea for most homes but are especially beneficial to those who have breathing difficulties such as asthma and allergies. If you think a UV light may be a good idea for your home contact us today to talk to an expert.
