If your friends are anything like ours, they find heat pumps fascinating and are curious to find out more about these little wonders of the heating and cooling world.  After all, Heat Pumps are some of the most versatile pieces of HVAC equipment and they are pretty cool too, no pun intended.  For example, you can use your heat pump to heat OR cool your home.  Some models can even heat water if you’re feeling like a cup of tea.  Pull any one of these nuggets of wisdom out at a dinner party or cookout and you are sure to impress.

Heat Pumps are Magical.  How else could a heat pump both heat AND cool your home?  We suppose the fact that in the summer the pump removes heat from your home, and in the winter acts as a reverse air conditioner and moves heat from outside into your home has nothing to do with it.

Heat Pumps See Possibilities Where Others See None.  In the middle of winter when most are complaining about the cold, Heat Pumps are looking outside for heat.  That’s because even when it is below freezing temperatures outside, heat is still present.  Your heat pump will find it and transfer it into heat your home.

Heat Pumps are Hippies.  Your heat pump loves the environment and knows how to reduce, reuse and recycle.  Instead of generating new heat, your heat pump will move heat that was already there indoors to heat your home.  Heat pumps make incredibly energy-efficient alternatives in climates with moderate heating and cooling needs.

Heat Pumps are Frugal Fannies.  Heat pumps can reduce the amount of energy you use to heat or cool your home by as much as 40%.  Reduced energy usage means reduced utility bills.  Who doesn’t like more money?

Heat Pumps Hate to Sweat Too.  High-efficiency heat pumps are better at removing humidity from your home than traditional air conditioners.  People who don’t enjoy being sweaty or stinky during humid summer months would benefit from becoming friends with a heat pump.

Not All Heat Pumps Are Created Equally.  Still, we think all heat pumps are amazing creatures.  Some use a heat pump called a ‘reverse cycle chiller’ and can generate hot or cold water to be used with radiant floor heating.  There are Geothermal heat pumps that take advantage of ground or nearby water temperatures, and Absorption heat pumps that use heat multiple kinds of heat for an energy source.
